A beauty salon in Leicester has scooped a national award.

Selina’s Salon, based in Belgrave, was named hair and make-up salon of the year at the inaugural British Asian Wedding Awards 2017. The business also won the top prize for the Midlands region.

Established in July 2010 by Selina Chauhan, the salon specialises in the latest cuts, colour and finishing techniques as well as a range of beauty services including facials, massages, nail treatments and waxing.

Selina said: “Words cannot express how much this means to me. Winning both these awards was an absolute shock. I wasn’t expecting this at all but it is amazing to have myself and my brand recognised.

“A huge thank you to all friends, family, clients and supporters that have booked me over the years and to all who voted for me over the last few months. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without you all!

“I absolutely love my job and just receiving feedback from my customers is an amazing feeling itself but then to receive these awards is insane!”

Selina launched her salon in Brandon Street, off Belgrave Road, when she was just 19.

She said: “Once I had completed my college diploma, I set my sights on opening my own salon and with a dedicated approach and positive mind-set this dream became a reality.”

Selina said she wanted to create a “modern and trendy” salon.

She said: “I was inspired to become a hair and make-up artist because I love creating new styles and different looks.

“The main focus of my salon is to create a relaxed, friendly and welcoming environment for my clients.

“Knowing that keeping up to date with the latest hair and make-up trends is vital for my business to succeed, I took up another challenge and gained another qualification, graduating in bridal hair and make-up with the famous Ash Kumar academy.

“I have always felt passionate about bridal hair and make-up, which has made me want to pursue this sector. My aim is to create and execute revolutionary bridal and fashion looks and designs. For me it is about having your own stamp on your work, I want Selina’s salon to have this reputation.”

Selina has worked with the Ladlee saree boutique in Leicester for the annual Diwali celebrations.

She said: “They had a live mannequin display showcasing the latest hair and make-up looks and outfits.

“In October 2016 they had celebrity guest Jasmin Walia, an actress and singer who’s starred in shows including Desi rascals and Towie, modelling for the live mannequin show. I had the privilege and honour to make over the beautiful lady herself.

“The feedback received from clients and the trust and confidence from brides and suppliers to create what they require for their occasion has given me the motivation to be more creative and to keep going and drives me to be better.”

The awards, organised by Oceanic Consulting, were set up to recognise and reward excellence in all practice.
